The Story Behind Into the Wonders of Pain

Every book begins with a question the author cannot silence. For me, that question was simple — and yet it took years to fully articulate:

Why do we treat pain as something to be ashamed of?

I have worked as a journalist for over a decade. I have sat across from people in their most vulnerable moments — after loss, after failure, after the kind of heartbreak that reshapes a person. And in nearly every interview, there was a moment where the person would pause, look down, and say, "I probably shouldn't be telling you this."

The Silence We Carry

Pain has a way of being privatized. We are taught to keep it small, to hold it neatly, to present the world with a composed face while something unravels inside.

But I believe that silence carries a cost — for individuals, for communities, for the stories that never get told.

Into the Wonders of Pain is my attempt to break that silence.
